Benefits of Glass Bottles
When it comes to baby bottles, more and more parents are turning back to glass. Here are 7 reasons why you should consider glass for your baby’s bottles.
1.) No chemicals
With glass, you can have piece of mind knowing that harmful chemicals won’t be leeching into your baby’s milk, water, or formula. Sure, many manufacturers are working hard to produce BPA-free bottles, but truth be told there are still compounds used in the making process that act like estrogen when released.
Even though glass is heavier than plastic, it is by far more durable. Glass is made from natural materials, like sand, and won’t break down like plastic will. Your glass bottles will be able to last you through multiple children, and you may even be able to resell them when you’re done with them.
3.) Easy to Clean
Tired of the milk residue remaining after you’ve cleaned your plastic bottles over and over again? It may be time to give glass a try. Glass bottles are nonporous, making them super easy to clean. It’s also obvious when they are cleaned sufficiently, unlike with plastic or metal. Plus, they are dishwasher safe. An absolute must for busy parents. 🙂

4.) Don’t Absorb Odors
Plastic is known to absorb residual tastes and odors, creating that obnoxious baby bottle stink. Plastic is also prone to scratches, which creates minute spaces for bacteria to grow and flourish. With glass, you’re far less likely to have to deal with scratches and residual odors.
5.) Tastes Better
Let’s be real; Everything tastes better in glass. I mean that has to be why they sell wine in glass right? Liquids that come from glass are just going to taste more natural since you won’t have any residual tastes and odors in your bottles.
6.) Full Sanitization
Because glass can withstand higher temperatures than plastic, you can be sure to get your bottles fully sanitized without worrying about melts. And because modern glass has such a wide tolerance of temperatures, you can put your baby’s bottles in the freezer or in a boiling pot of water without them shattering.
7.) Work with Common Breast Pumps
Many moms are hesitant to invest in glass bottles, because they are afraid it will be extra work to transfer their milk from their pump bottles to their glass ones and then wind up with extra dishes. Luckily, there are tons of glass bottles that are compatible with common breast pumps, so you can just pump straight into your glass bottles and not have to worry about washing extra dishes.
But Don’t Glass Bottles Break Easily?
There is always a chance of breakage with glass, but with the way glass baby bottles are made today, that chance is pretty miniscule. Most modern glass bottles are made with tempered glass, which is harder to break than regular glass and shatters into rounded pebbles rather than shards in the off chance that it does break. Many companies are also adding in an extra layer of protection with a silicone sleeve around the bottle.
Where Can I Find Glass Bottles?
Depending on where you live, it may be difficult to find glass bottles at major retailers, like Walmart and Target. You may be able to find some options at your local health food store though, and of course, you can always find them online through sites like Nicki’s Diapers or Amazon.
My Favorite Glass Bottles are…
Some of my favorite bottles on the market are the Lifefactory glass bottles. These were some of the only bottles we were able to get our breastfed baby to take. They were also really convenient because they hooked right up to my Medela Pump N Style breast pump.
They have even stood against the test of time with my toddler. She still uses these bottles with their matching sippy caps, and they’ve taken MANY hits to the floor without any cracks or breaks. I’m looking forward to using these again with our next baby.
Glass is Boss
Glass is boss when it comes to your baby’s bottles. There are no leeching chemicals and no residual tastes or odors. They are super easy to clean and sanitize, will hold up well throughout all your children, and many are even compatible with common breast pumps. With all these benefits, it’s no wonder why glass is making a resurgence in the baby bottle world.
